VIDEO: Adding Solar Panel And Upgrading Solar Wiring.

I purchased a GO POWER 170 watt solar panel and added it to my existing solar setup. I already had an old UNI~SOLAR 64 watt panel which was impressively inadequate for charging. I now have 234 watts total charge capability in perfect conditions. I have gone from a maximum charge current of 3.6 amps to 9.2 amps with higher 13 or so amperages expected as summer returns. The batteries seem to like the fuller charge they recieve now as my overnight power seems to be greater than just truck alternator charging up to 13.6 volts. The old PWM solar controller takes the voltages up to 14.6 volts. When the batteries are fully charged the current flows at about .6 to 1.6 amps. In the mornings after a night of use, that is when the highest charge currents are seen.
Very happy with the system performance. The panel was $380.00 and a couple hundred for wiring, connectors and other parts. Took 2 days to complete the project. It wasn't terribly difficult and pre planning having everything ready to go helps smooth things along.
It's a long video but I show every step of the installation.
Enjoy, J&K
  • Well...don’t quit your day job to make videos but it was somewhat interesting. Toooooooo long! If the system is performing, that’s all that is needed.
