I can understand the motivation to find an easy towable that's cheap but this trailer sounds like a road hazard for everyone. I would suggest you concentrate on making the trailer road worthy and forget about paint until later.
You guess you lost part of the trailer at the gas station? You didn't hear it or just kept on moving?
