We had a 2005 6.0 litre 2500HD with 410 rears. Best truck I ever owned, pulled a 9000 lb. fifth wheel across the country and back (including around Cape Breton)put 20,000 kilometers on that trip alone.
The drawbacks were fuel economy (8mpg towing) and getting used to the higher revs on the hills. Had the transfer case replaced at 65,000 k. under warranty.
The gas mileage made it a terrible daily driver so sold it and now have a low mileage 2006 Duramax. Sorry to hear about your wife's sensitivities it creates many challenges in ones life.
