wallpaper border removal

I own a 2007 keystone passport that has a ugly floral wallpaper border halfway up the walls. I want to remove and just leave the neutral wall color. Are there any tricks or traps I should know before I start peeling this stuff off? Thanks.
  • Dont! I tried that a couple of years ago. Luckily I started in the toilet room because by the time I had the paper off I had also messed up the wall. Ended up painting the bathroom. Turned out fine, but if I hqd it to do over I wouldnt.
  • I'd worry peeling it off will rip the wall behind it. They're pretty thin walls. For my house I used wallpaper remover from lowes, Piranha brand. Spray it on, let it soak 30 sec or so, and peel. Easy.

It may be easier to just buy a nicer border and cover it.
  • use a mixture of 50% water, 50% vinegar, and a tablespoon full of any kind of liquid soap in a spray bottle. Spray the area you want to remove and let it soak in ... do not use a paper tiger or score it in any way. Typically you can peel off the top layer of the paper, then spray and soak again to remove the adhesive underneath. I freind taught me this trick and it works better than any store bought remover and does not ruin the walls.
  • I'd be hesitant. If you really can't stand it, there is a paint that can go over wallcovering. Or you might find some wallpaper you do like and put it over the existing. You would need to use wallpaper adhesive rather the water-soak paper. I believe the wallcovering used in TTs is a part of the wallboard, not a separate applicatioon.
  • I pulled the border off in our Crossroads Sunset Trail by using a hairdryer to loosen a corner, then gently pulled it while moving the hairdryer along as I worked. I used Goo-Be-Gone in the spots that retained a little stickiness. It did not disturb the wallpaper underneath at all. When I finished you couldn't tell it had ever had a border. Not sure if this works in all situations. lizzie
  • Depends on what kind of paste was used to install it. Find a hidden corner and test first.

What you are describing is not a border in the sense that most people think of a border. Borders are usually about 6 inches wide. What you
probably have is panel board with the wall paper as part of the whole assembly and probably will not come off without damaging the whole wall. I would just paper over it.

    +1
  • I easily and successfully pulled mine off as well with a hairdryer. I slowly peeled it as I heated the border just ahead of where I was pulling at it.
