Thanks for the info. It never registered with me that the receiver has different ratings with/without the bars. I know the tongue weight is in the 900-lb range, so I guess I should be happy I didn't break anything going without the bars. It is a WD hitch, I was just being lazy by not using them. "Hey, I got a 6000-lb rear axle, and she isn't squatting, so who needs weight bars?" Rookie mistake (and I'm not a rookie).
