Washing the travel Trailer

We're new to this and looking forward to learning all the "in's and out's" of mobile life! We have a new 2014 Jayco Jayflight 33" trailer which unfortunately sits outside on dirt. We had it washed once at a truck wash in Palm Springs which cost us quite a bit.

The only kind of "truck wash" we seem to be able to find is mobile people who come to you or those who subcontract with RV dealers. We thought that truck stops might have truck washes or a place where we could do it our self.

We live in SW Riverside county (California) - would appreciate any advice!

  • Ours is kept at the house and gets washed at least before every trip. It gets thoroughly cleaned and waxed twice a year. Additional cleaning when needed. It can get dirty real quick by just sitting there.
  • If you use a mobile RV wash company be careful if they want to use a power washer on your rig. If the power washer is set too high or they get too close the water can strip off decals and sealant.

Saw this happen a few weeks ago in a campground in Idaho. The person using the power washer was on his cell phone almost the entire time he was working. Wife was afraid she would see him fall the roof of the rig he was washing. I don't know where the owner was, never saw him.

In my dreams, it is! Doesn't work out that way in practice.
  • It is a family event to wash and wax the trailer. I start with the roof using BEST rubber roof cleaner, then use regular car was and wax for the sides. A few hours on a Saturday and done.
  • My wife and I wash ours once a year by ourselves.
We do the roof first, and then the rest of it. The following day, we use conditioner on the rubber roof, and then I wax it

Two years ago, we made a trailer barn for it, and it is amazing how clean it stays out of the weather.
