I am surprised no one has mentioned Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area, North of Newport, or Yachats and Cape Perpetua, South of Newport. Those are the 2 most amazing areas on the entire Oregon Coast.
Ah - you beat me to it! We drove up the Oregon coast last fall, and the coastline from Newport to Depoe Bay was simply stunning, between the landscapes, and the marine mammals. We also loved camping at Ft Stevens State Park (huge sites!) and poking around the beach, the wreck of the Peter Iredale, and Columbia River areas.
We spent a few days in Gold Beach, OR, and on the N side of the city is the wreck of the Mary D Hume (in the Rogue River) and the Patterson Bridge. The history of the coast is fascinating, and the bridges are an Art Deco lover's dream!
We found a magazine (similar to the "Milepost" for the drive to Alaska) that told of the scenic and historic areas along the coast - I'm pretty sure we picked it up at a Welcome Center as we entered Oregon?? It gave a wealth of information, which we appreciated since it was our first visit to the area. I want to say it was called "The Visitors Guide to Driving the Oregon Coast" or something like that??
