It's going to help pay the difference between my 11 and my future new 13. - 45RicochetExplorerHere's the last 6 month stock prices for Cummins (actually a LINK too )
- HannibalExplorerYes this thread is about the Cummins engine. So wtf are you in here whining nonstop about your GirlyManContraption. Who cares how many Isuzu pickups gm has sold. Go away.
- travelnutzExplorer IIthomasmnile,
I see you are bright enough to find one of the 7 web sites giving the info even if Rico etc isn't. Very difficult to find if you really want to isn't it, NOT!
2 of them have breakdowns and yes it includes Cummins made for the Italian owned and run Chrysler Corporation's Mexican mase and imported pickups. Go back a re-read my post above.
It's pretty much common knowledge amongst the people who have the need or want to know. Can't help those in self-denial though.
You may have noticed that ib516's constantly repeat posted graph is labeled: "2012 U.S. sales retail + FLEET - 1 ton pickup trucks" is purposely a parsed cherry picking effort to tell only a 1/4 truth. Also notice ib516 did NOT post the web page link, so I will so all can see the real truth and facts. GM does NOT participate in fleet sales and hasn't for years and it's a big part of Ford and Ram pickup sales. Only a little over half the 2012 Ram 1 ton pickups had the Cummins diesel option. The rest of Ram HD pickups had the hemi gas engine which are made in Mexico.
The LINK:
http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2013/03/update-total-retail-fleet-2012-sales.html
This thread is about the Cummins engine and they are used in 3/4 (2500HD) Rams also and ib516 conviently omitted the web link as usual but there it is. Go to the link and see in actuality a breakdown of what the true sales of all HD and also for 1/2 tons retail & fleet Ford, GM and Ram pickup sales were for 2012. 5 graphs spelling it all out for you. Again, GM does NOT participate in fleet sales and hasn't for several years.
I have nothing against a Cummins for a pickup. However, I do have a problem with posting half truths or simply knowingly false or parsed info as every honest person should.
If you don't want to take the time to link to the graphs, here is the numbers:
2012 3/4 ton retail & fleet pickup sales:
GM 2500 HD 115,304 total 81,909 + 33,395
Ford F-250 HD 103,460 total
Ram 2500 HD 54,267 total
2012 1 ton retail & fleet sales:
Ford F-350 70,150
Ram 3500 39,453
GM 3500 37,423 27,740 + 9,683
2012 total U.S. retail + fleet pickup truck sales:
GM 641,590
Ford 621,212
Ram truck 280,462
2012 percentage of the Big 3 PICKUP truck retail + fleet sales market:
GM truck 41.16% NO fleet sales
Ford truck 40.26%
Ram truck 18.17%
Both GM and Ford pickup sales are way over 2 to 1 in 2012 sales compared to Ram. Nothing new as this is has been about the same since the 1950's and still is today! What are these Ram truck blowhards talking about anyway and the number tell it like it is! Now you know the truth! - thomasmnileExplorerCheckin' in, still going strong I see..........:B
BTW, I notice the press release doesn't specify what segment of truck sales is down that resulted in fewer engine sales for Cummins. Light, medium, heavy duty, specialty vehicles, agricultural.............or domestic of foreign markets.......:h - 45RicochetExplorerJust love posts with no factual links to back them up. Priceless
Speak of priceless, how is that GM stock doing again? Looks like the Fed is unloading while they can. No link, I just said it. - travelnutzExplorer IICopied and pasted from Cummins own web site:
Cummins announces results for 2012, revenues of $17.3 billion and EBIT of 13.7 percent excluding special items
**Fourth quarter revenues of $4.3 billion, EBIT of 12.9 percent of sales excluding restructuring costs
**Expects 2013 revenue to be flat to down 5 percent and EBIT to be in the range of 13 to 14 percent of sales
COLUMBUS, IND. * Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) today reported results for the fourth quarter and full year of 2012.
Fourth quarter revenue of $4.3 billion decreased 13 percent from the same quarter in 2011 reflecting weakness in most major markets and geographies. The decrease year-over-year was driven by weaker demand in trucks.
Engine Segment
**Sales * $2.5 billion, down 18 percent.
**Segment EBIT * $272 million, or 10.9 percent of sales, compared to $368 million or 12.0 percent of sales.
DUH! Add this to the 2013 Dodge/Ram CTD truck non-production woes and how much lower will the 2013 sales actually be?
The 2,000,000th Cummins engine built for Chrysler Corp trucks was supposed to have occured in Dec 2012 but didn't until April 2013. Look it up! - Cummins12V98Explorer III

I for one have never bought the most popular or the one with highest sales volume of anything and my way has served me very, very well for 50 years now. JMHO.
I'm not a blind cheerleader fan of or for any particular brand or engine etc. I am a cheerleader fan for the actual facts and the truth as documented indisputable data has established over designated time periods backed by consumer demand. Not overblown loose lip claims or falsely exaggerated wannbe bragging to make something into something it is not. Sales numbers amongst the price ocmpetitive competition almost always tells it like it really is. The buying public isn't as dumb as many various brand pushers think they are. They simply vote with their wallets year after year after year as it should be. If something sells less than the competitions there has to be a reason and the buying public seems to know the reasons. It's the very long established and proven law of supply and demand. An intelligent manufacturer does not vastly over supply beyond the actual demand as doing so will bring certain financial disaster.
This has nothing to do with me! I'm only the messenger of the documented established and written facts. However, some people can't read or accept facts because perhaps they do not want to! Yes it's a thick forest but some can't see it because of all the trees. Enjoy!
I guess you never owner a vehicle with a Chevy small block? :h- HannibalExplorerThat's interesting ib. I knew the HD Ram was making big gains in the market but I didn't realize how much.
