Water filter system

I'm using my camper a lot more this year and can not always be sure of the water quality I'm getting when on the road. I've looked into a water filtration system and was thinking of using a 5 stage type I've seen on Amazon and at Costco. I would mount it in the truck bed in front of the wheel well since that's wasted space for me and my camper application.

The filter would have a hook up for outside water source, that would fill my on-board fresh water tank. This should be able to filter even raw stream or creek water if necessary.

Can anyone advice me on the merits or problems with this idea? The filter system looks like this and available at Amazon for under $140;

  • I hear you. Space determined what my final water filtration system would be.

    I purchased a two filter 10" cartridge system with filters that do an incredible job of filtering the water that I will be filtering, which, for the most will be municipal water.

    I fitted a brass garden hose connecter on both ends and then fill my entire water tank with filtered water. I am drinking straight from the tap and the wife notices that the water is less hard in the shower.

    Your space will dictate if you go 1, 2 or three cartridges.

    I used this website to buy my housing and filters.

    No filters to change and you could put mud in it and get pure water to drink!

    It looks pretty good but as an alternative, for $219 you could buy a bunch of drinking water and no need for 110 Volts to boil it!

  • I use a similar system at home, and plan to install one in my coach, but only for drinking water. You need to remember that the output of these systems is only a trickle, and that 3/4 of the input water goes down the drain, leaving you with only 1/4 of the water you started with. In your application, you would need to leave the unit running for several hours to fill your tank. I just use a Brita On Tap in my camper.
  • I'd consider using an inline water filter to filter the water before it gets into your tank.
  • Interesting, I was wondering about the same thing and currently just thinking of the little Brita or like water pitchers.

    I tried a small filter that had a stand into the ground but didn't really do the job, still tasted funny.

    standing by to see what the pros come up with..

    fun...
