The switches in question are supplied by the water heater manufacturer. Since they make millions of the darn things and it is pretty much the reason for their existence, one would think they could get it right.
I once bought an electric clock and wrote a review saying that the PLUG was too long. (The stupid thing was over 2 inches.) They wrote back saying that often in older homes the outlet may be some distance from the clock. To shorten the story, I could not get it thru their thick heads that there is such a thing as a clock receptacle and a PLUG is found on the end of the CORD.
If you go into business making things, perhaps you should actually try using the product.
