Leaning a ladder against a fiberglass cap is not a good idea because they are very thin and you can damage it. They look solid but they're not. I use a 10' tall stepladder to wax the cap but have to get up on the roof and reach down a foot or so to get the rest of it. Something with a long handle might be the easiest way to go.
I made sure that where the ladder rests on the front is not flexing when I'm on the ladder. At a fairly steep angle, there's not that much weight on the camper.
Just need to figure out what works best for your situation.
