I'm guessing that Ford and GMC/Chevrolet believe that if you get the front end right, the rear end will take care of itself.
However, if you follow the current specifications for returning the front end only half way back to the unhitched height, you will end up with more rear-end drop than you would when eliminating 100% of the front-end rise.
If you find the amount of rear-end drop to be undesirable, I see no problem with using air bags to eliminate some of it -- as long as you get the front end back to the manufacturer's specified height.
And, as stated in the previous post, if you really want to know how much load transfer you are getting, take the rig to a scales.
