WDH while staying hooked up overnight

Is it okay to leave the weight distribution bars tightened overnight (if the site is leveled enough)?

For quick overnight stops I always left the TV hooked up when I could but I also removed the bars (or jacked them down with the ProPride). It'd be faster if I didn't have to do it though.

  • All I do is put the stabs down for the night if I am fairly level, Front to Back. If I am not level enough for sleep/fridge, then I will do what needs to be done. Last trip, my overnight spot, just dropped the air from the airbags and BAM, level enough.
  • i also stay hooked up for overnight stays, with stabilizers down. but i always unplug 7 way, after learning the hard way when it drained my TV battery. had everything hooked up in front of the house for about 2 days prepping for a trip, and wasn't on shore power. battery wasn't dead after just overnight, but probably about 18-20 hours and car wouldn't start. i figure why risk it, 7 way plug is easy to pull for that overnight stop.
  • I just drove 17000kms and left my bars on 90% of the time. No problems to report.
  • I always hook up the day before we leave on a trip. I have left it hooked up for a few days. Hurts nothing. Why should it?
  • So many people say they put the tongue jack down to relieve the weight on the TV suspension. A motor home never relieves the weight on the suspension with no apparent ill effects. I stay hooked up for an over night but do put the stab jacks down before putting out the slides.
  • I have been doing it for 10 years several times a year on overnight stops.
I don't even put the tongue jack down or stabilize, unless I am way off level

  • I never thought about not leaving them as-is when we had the TT when, as you said, the site or parking spot was level enough.

Never had a problem because of it.
  • Yep...100% not a problem....

I put the stabilizer jacks down and crank the tongue jack down enough to touch the ground...I also unplug my 7 way RV plug before I plug the shore power in.

    Thanks!

  • Not sure how it works with a propride but if I stop for any significant length of time I usually just use the trailer jack to jack everything up a bit to take some of the pressure off the truck. Not all of it, but I figure that even a little bit has to help the suspension of the truck in the long term.
