It had been working fine for a very long time. Nothing to do with food splatter or whatnot. I left the stove on the minimal temp 170 deg during a deep freeze for a couple days while I was away.
Got back and the piece was emitting a harsh smoke. The probe piece near the pilot light was touching the bracket. I've pushed it back between the brackets so it's not touching and relit, the whole piece gets redhot but doesn't seem to be smoking. I will see if I can find the whole piece online for sale as its part of the pilot light and requires a disconnect of the gasline. I'd still like to know why coz it was emitting an acidy toxic fume smoke. Thanks
