- Billybob62rnExplorerThanks to all....found CAT station and dump near to me....
- rbpruExplorer III suppose it would be nice to know the weight on the TV without the WD hitch but I have had as much as 600 lbs difference in the total weight between my weekend juants and my month long fishing and sightseeing trips.
I have also thought about end of the season weight, with the TV and TT empty and ready to store for the winter.
All this would be interesting but I doubt it would change what we consider necessary.
I have never had an issue with crowded CAT scales - Need-A-VacationExplorer

To be able to figure all the weights you need the third weigh without the wd bars latched up.
I will go in before weighing, as mentioned, and tell them I need to weigh 3 times, and ask to pay for all after.
I then weigh the truck and trailer, with the wd bars latched up. IF no one is waiting for the scale, I unhook the wd bars, for the 2nd weigh. Then go drop the trailer where the big rigs park, and go weigh the truck only. - AtleeExplorer IIThat's exactly what I do when I go to the CAT scales. For my first weigh with truck only loaded for the road I drive up to the scales and weight the truck. (and I have a long walking stick that I used to push the button.) I go home, hitch up and run back to the scales to weight the whole thing. (getting the cheap reweigh) It helps that I only live a couple of miles from the cat scales.

Also commercial highway truck scales but won't get a scale ticket and you definitely can't hold truckers up. Some locations may have an area where you can unhook to get truck only weight and can back up or go around.
If you go to a CAT scale, tell them inside you want to do multiple passes and then when you go around for 2nd or more passes, tell the attendant it's a reweigh so you won't get charged extra. Don't forget to take a long stick as the call button is way up in the air for trucks. - rbpruExplorer III take my rig to the CAT scales with a small ladder.
I center the TV between the front and drive axle scales. Usually the cab on the the front scale the bed on the back scale. I use the ladder to reach the call button.
I return with the rig hitched up and ready for the road. Again I center the TV between the front and drive axle scales, this puts the TT axles on the trailer scale.
From these numbers I know the TV weight without the TT, the TV weight change when I add the TT, the weight on the TT axles and the total rig weight.
Some folk like to know the weight of the TT alone. However, that changes from trip to trip depending on how heavy I am loaded.
I want to know the weight on each TV axel and the weight on the TT axels so I can tell how close I am to the max cargo limit and each axels weight limit.
Our CAT scale charges $10.00 for the first weigh and $2.00 for the second weigh if it is within 24 hrs. - KD4UPLExplorer IITruck stops have great segmented scales where you can get individual axle weights with one stop. These cost money. For less money or often for free try: feed mills, landfills, quarries, scrap yards, cotton gins, etc.

I usually stay away from the truck stops so I don't interfere with someone on a schedule trying to make a living.

- AtleeExplorer IIYou have a CAT scale close by. These can be found at many truck plazas.
I have one about 2 miles from my house. That's where I go.Billybob62rn wrote:
