Stationary, you did a great job on fixing up the Burb with all of that Heavy Duty parts. The only thing is, if you would ever get into a accident, and somebody gets hurt, [god forbid] unless the Burb is certified to 3/4 ton status, [because of the parts] you may be liable cause the sticker on the door post still has the sticker for a 1/2 ton. I owned a towing company and I don't remember how many times we got involved in moving trucks around so they could look them over and weigh them with whatever they had attached or on them. I would check it out.
I would like to see an instance where someone who is NOT at fault in an accident is somehow denied by the other party's insurance company for being overweight. I don't think it has happened.
I would also like to see an instance where a non-commercial driver towing a trailer that is overweight in one of the myriad possible measurements gets denied coverage due to being overweight. An insurance company would have to weigh the rig post accident, and I doubt that ever happens.
If you are at fault in an accident, you are at fault. You might be negligent because you overloaded your rig, or you might be negligent because you were speeding or following too close or whatever. Any way you look at it, you are negligent and therefore liable and therefore your liability coverage will cover you. That is precisely why you buy that coverage.
Did your insurance company ask you how much your trailer weighed when you insured it and what you were pulling it with? Mine didn't. You'd think that if they were going to try to deny coverage at some point they would get their ducks in a row ahead of time. They don't ask because, ultimately, it does not factor in.
