After being in towing for 18 years and working with Insurance companys for that time I have seen it happen, If people don't want to believe it than that's up to them, but I would not want to be on the receiving end of what the Insurance might do. Good luck.
If you are "in towing" then I am guessing you're commercial. In which case I can see some instance where weights might come into play. But I don't see much of an angle for an insurance company to deny coverage to an insured person who exceeded a weight limit.
For NON-commercial folks like most of us here, I defy someone to show me an example where an insurance company denied their customer coverage because they were over one weight limit or another. You say you've seen it, so please give us an example.
If an insurance company tried to say they would not cover me because they somehow ascertained that I was overweight, then I would sue them for bad faith. You can bet an insurance company would rather pay a marginal claim on your behalf than be faced with a bad faith lawsuit.
In short, denial of coverage due to being overweight for the average Joe just doesn't happen and no one who has claimed it happens has given a real life example. There are reasons not to exceed weight limits, but insurance coverage is not really one of them.
