weld broken on the slide - common??

Any builder, Host or whomever should be ashamed of that level of expertise.
MIG welding, whether it's steel or aluminum, is a low skill endeavor. A scant step above making burgers at Burger King.. You still have to dial your amperage correctly, maintain proper torch angle and dwell but other than those 3 things, the MIG machine handles everything else.
For what units cost, I'd rather see them TIG welded, but a TIG welder is a high paying, high skill level trade. Not everyone can 'stack dimes' or weld 2 aluminum pop cans together. That level of skill demands top pay.
