I think I would miss the ability to quickly back my motorhome into a space, and to level it with jacks. Moving it from one spot in a dry camping area to another only takes a few minutes with a motorhome, but trailer would take longer.
I like being able to get into the back, take a nap, or spend the night in front of a grade school (on the weekends to avoid school bus traffic).
Many fifth wheels and travel trailers that I have looked at require the slides to be out to get into the bathroom, or put stuff into the refrigerator. Though one had a 2 door refrigerator in the slide out kitchen (totally blocked) and a second refrigerator near the door, for easy access while out shopping, and easy to let everyone get a drink without going all the way into the RV.
Have fun camping and on your trip to Alaska! I would get the 'Milepost' book now, study it, and find out things, like where the 8% grade is, and pick a route that avoids that one!
