I suspect he is telling you it is a pain in the ass. Just my guess.

I bought 150's more of a PITA than they are worth I don't use them anymore. We use our 6V bats they last a long weekend (4 days), if I need some charging the gen comes out and I watch some TV.

Solar is where theory hits the cold light of reality.

People can and do get along quite well with solar because they have committed themselves to doing so. You do not just buy a panel and go on your merry way.

It is like boondock you have to commit to it.

If you are only interested in a trickle charger it would really only be good for maintaining the battery between outings while the RV is in storage (assuming it wasn't covered), but that may be all you were wanting.

read all you can on Handy bobs site about solar and batteries.. better to know what and how rather than just buy some **** and slap it together and be disappointed when it does not work well..

start small but be able to expand for more power in the future is the way to look at this.

it a lot to read but worth the effort if you are wanting to do real solar power not the fake stuff like you get a harbor freight tools and such or the local RV dealer.

Lot's of information here even though most of it related to mounted panels.

You can get a portable panel kit, or you can get 100w/200w kits that are permanent. I camp out west where there is rarely heavy tree cover, and my 2 100w panels recharge my 2 12v 110Ah batteries by noon every day. In the winter, it takes until late-afternoon to fully recharge.

I would not do a trickle-charge setup, as it does not replenish what you use. Depending on your use, 200w is likely going to be better for you. Portable panels require you to put them away if you leave camp, so you may be missing the best sun (or, you may be missing your panel when you return).

Just my thoughts, having used 100w then 200w panels for 5 years.

A typical 120WATT SOLAR Panel will produce an usuable 5-6AMPS DC CURRENT when in high sun...

If you are demanding more then 5-6AMPS DC Current from your battery then you will need more solar panels etc...

This is where all of the planning is about...
