Your experimentation process sounds good--rent before you buy. An advantage to trailers is that you can leave your trailer parked at a campground, detach, and then, explore. A towed vehicle behind a class A serves the same purpose but there is a bit more complexity. I would never park my trailer, unattended, in a business' parking lot.
A disadvantage to trailers is that you are towing an articulated combination so compensation on tight roadways is needed. You will have a learning curve to back up like a pro if a newbie. Typically, your speed along the highway will be less than common, especially in mountainous areas.
