You should know yourself it takes far more than just "a few weeks" ... if anything, the OP should put these long distance travel trailer camping plans off for a year and take this upcoming year to get out there camping locally with a smaller, simpler camper like a popup and figure out for themselves just what this sport is all about.
My gosh. You make it sound like brain surgery. If the OP goes with his plan and has some disappointments, or difficulties along the way, the only thing he is out is some $. That can be chalked up as the cost of his education. He already knows he doesn't want a popup, why steer him needlessly in that direction?
