Many good suggestions here. Varying opinions, but then, that gives you more to think about.
Two things that have stood out in responses:
Go with the idea of renting a truck from UHaul and a trailer from wherever. That way, you can experiment, find what you like and dislike. If you're considering a TT, you can also consider a van as a TV, and rent one from UHaul. If you are considering a 5er, you'll be better served in renting a 250/2500 or 350/3500 class TV.
And along those same lines, consider going with more truck than you think you need. A 1500 will severely limit what you could consider, if you decide that a 5er is better for you. It would even limit you in a TT, as to payload and how big/small a trailer to get. You would need at least a 250/2500 series and would probably be happier with a 350/3500 series.
You and your husband seem to be on the right track, taking your time to research, explore, test, and then decide. Whatever you decide, best of luck to you in your decision, and hope you have many wonderful experiences.
