- mkirschNomad IIHmm, the doors on my DRW don't swing any wider than my 1500. Don't know why that would make any difference in a regular parking spot.
Fact of the matter is I drive my DRW to work on occasion just to exercise it. I park in the same, regular-sized spots with either truck. - 2BLAZERSExplorer

Sure, the numbers say it's wider...but no dually owners here are saying, "You know, if only I had an SRW I wouldn't have wasted so much of my vacation time looking for bigger parking spaces."
It's the difference between experience and folks looking up numbers on the internet.
I never have this issue, as I ALWAYS back in my dually until the tires are touching the curb or sidewalk. That puts my doors where most other vehicles have there doors....
The downside to a dually: 2 more tires to buy and sometimes you might have to walk a little further in a parking lot. If you need a dually for the weight you should get it.
I have been daily driving a dually for 8 years now and won't ever go back as long as I have a TC and tow at the same time. Even if we switch to a toy hauler fifth wheel I will stick to duallies. - Just_JeffExplorerwnjj - It's not the math of "wider" that's hard to understand...it's how much of an impact this actually has on the vehicle's use. I can park in any spot that the same length SRW truck can.
Unless, of course, the spot is too narrow for your wider DRW.
:h Don't know how most of you feel (suspect most are like me) but if the spot is too narrow for a dually, I am surely not going to try and shoe-horn a SRW pickup in there either.
I mean, I just don't need parking lot dings and scratches on my vehicle. I'd rather walk a little farther than put up with that problem.
There are plenty of spots I would park a SRW where people can open their doors just fine where the same could not be said of a DRW. What part of wider is so hard to understand? A wider truck takes a wider space. Yes the dually may "fit", but you'll be trapping the cars next to you.
It's not a major problem or a show stopper. It's just a downside for some as the very title of the thread was asking. - The_Mad_NorskyExplorer

No free lunch as they say and you will have a much more expensive truck that needs to be special ordered from a dealer and of course a much more expensive camper. In effect you have the equivalent of a Class C motorhome that can be used to pull a 5th-wheel should you choose to do so later (though most people use a SRW truck for that type of use).
The turning radius is something to consider and I would be looking at the Ford F-550 truck versus a GM 3500HD in your situation. The F-550 is built from the ground up to support DRW and not as an add-on option as with the 1-ton pickups. - noxinnhojExploreranother dually thread,ok,i drive my dually 8 months at least a year with my tc on it and i love it.I like duallys, because i drive a dually.its not that hard to park as long as there are two stalls, lol,
- Super_DaveExplorerThe fact that anyone has bothered to argue on this thread pretty much proves that everyone with a dually views it differently or has their own opinion. OP, guess you'll just have to find out for yourself.
- SheriffdougExplorerI think the width of the DRW hips will be the same as the truck camper width or close.
Truck Camper width 96" & Ram DRW width 94". Just googled. - jimh406Explorer IIINo, my list is very accurate. For instance, I noted that typically drws are cc, take a look at pics in this thread including yours.
Note: drws have advantages no doubt, but the thread was about downsides. My post was only worth about two cents. ;)
People keep throwing loaded with a tc, but the thread didn't ask for that.
