- Wills6_4_HemiExplorerAfter reading on the ram forums I would probably go with the 4:56
- mtofell1Explorer2014 6.4 Hemi 4X4 with 3.73 gears towing an 11,000# 5th wheel out west in the hills. Overall, I'm satisfied but not ecstatic. The engine is great.... the tranny pretty much sucks balls. Stupid shift patterns that I just override when towing. The gap between first and second gears is a country mile and is by far my biggest annoyance with the truck. Hauling up steep winding roads you can either rap it out in first gear or lug and shift constantly when you let it go into 2nd.
I'd never purposely buy this truck and plan to tow north of 10,000#. I had a smaller TT which it handled great. I frequent a Ram board and some guys have swapped to 4.30 or 4.56 gears and love it. - spoon059Explorer IIMy friend tows a 30 +/- foot 5th wheel that weighs about 10K lbs with his 6.4 with 3.73 gears. He wanted the 4.10's but couldn't find any on the lot and didn't want to order one. He is annoyed with the way it shifts while towing up mountains. The trans wants to stay in 4th gear too long, then skips 3rd and goes into 2nd with high RPM's. He has figured out that he just needs to manually downshift into 3rd gear when approaching a climb.
Truck handles the weight just fine though, other than the transmission programming quirk. - Wills6_4_HemiExplorer

Just bought a 2016 3500 SRW 6.4 Hemi with 4.10. Tow a 26 ft TT now. No issues at all. Bought the truck to upgrade to a 5th wheel, not a huge one mind you. - JebsterExplorerJust bought a 2016 3500 SRW 6.4 Hemi with 4.10. Tow a 26 ft TT now. No issues at all. I TT weighs 8500 loaded and my golfcart weighs between 1000-1500 lbs. The golfcart goes in the bed of the truck. If I get 9-10 mpg I will be happy.
I have a 34' 3 axle hauler. With my 15 3500 drw with 3.73 at 14,000 lbs
trailer weight. It just fine. Have ben from Maryland to NC,Maryland to
Tenn, and plenty of trips to pa. I will turn more rpm than my 08 6.4
that I traded in. I have no problem on the big hills on I-81 keep up
with traffic just fine. So far have towed about 9,000 miles fuel
hand figered, about 9.6 mpg. - bluefishgaryExplorerI have a 34' 3 axle hauler. With my 15 3500 drw with 3.73 at 14,000 lbs
