Not a TC story but a camping one. We were running the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho and near the meeting with the Main Salmon. Pulled in on a nice beach to make camp. Beautiful day, hot and not a cloud. About an hour later there was a sound kind of like a jet plane up river and getting closer. Then it hit, a wind that had to be in excess of 60 mph and more. It was a wall of air going down a steep and narrow canyon. Wind like that can happen when air cools at higher elevations and starts falling as cold air does. Confined to a canyon it is kind of like water going thru a fire hose and keeps going faster till it can spread out in a wide valley. We lost a lot of unsecured gear and one boat and then it was over just like that, a nice calm evening. My friend was taking a shower from a Sun Shower tied to a tree. I looked over just in time see a 100 foot Pine Tree falling toward her. I yelled and once she saw the tree you never saw a naked woman move so fast. As she streaked away the tree fell on where she was standing and she just made it to safety. She cut her feet badly she was glad to be alive.
