With a tow truck ,what about all the weight on the rear axel? Would there be extra, or the same distribution front and rear as on the ground? Pus for those with 4x4 theres additional issues with a tow.
Rear axle weight would not be different than going up a long steep grade.
4x4 doesn't make thing any harder since the front axle isn't engaged when in 2wd. So doesn't make any difference if the front wheels are turning or off the ground.
Now an AWD vehicle is totally different and would create a problem since there is usually not a way to disconnect thre front driveline from the rear driveline.
Depending on the distance to be towed, the rear driveshaft may or may not need to be disconnected for an automatic with 2wd. Since there is residue oil on the parts in the transmission and there is no load on the driveline, it is possible to tow up to about 25 miles without disconnecting - if the speeds are held within reason.
