We do not travel with full fresh water. Normally about 1/2 is plenty.
We buy sufficient food to last 2-4 days. We found out that there is actually grocery stores on the road!
We do not make reservations unless hitting a specific locale and then make them only a few days in advance.
We normally donot go much over 200 miles per day. We are retired and in no hurry!
