I tow a 7K TT with a 5.3 Z71 Tahoe and it does okay but I wouldn't recommend any 1/2 ton if you plan on towing anything bigger than 4 or 5000 lbs very far. I plan on upgrading to a 3/4 or full ton P/U.
I believe the manufactures of 1/2 ton trucks are trying to sell trucks they don't think will pull very often. The numbers are generated to sell trucks and are mostly for flat roads and only occasionally. Commuter trucks. 3/4 and 1 ton are designed and built to pull all day every day. Work trucks.
