What is usually overlooked by buyers is the gears that are provided with a tow vehicle. It can reduce the towing capacity by up to 50%. Only a 11% difference though with the Ecoboost engine as the towing capacity is pathetic at only 5500 lbs. with the 3.55 gears and 6,000 lbs. with the 3.73 gears.
With the Ford F-250 trucks there is little difference with conventional towing but with a 5th wheel trailer the 4.30 gears up the towing capacity with the gas 6.2L engine to 15,800 lbs. from 12,800 lbs. with the 3.73 gears on the same truck.
You are looking at the wrong engine for those tow numbers...
