The days of significantly better fuel economy on 3/4 and 1 ton diesel pickup are long gone. If you "run the numbers" you need to be driving more than 50K/year to make a diesel pickup worth the cost.
The medium duty truck (F650-F750) market has been waiting patiently for a gas engine with more power. The 10 speed will help a lot also.
