A friend owns a fleet of tow trucks. He had all diesels. He reluctantly bought a gas truck several years back due to immediate availability when he needed another cab & chassis, and it financially outperformed the diesels. He still buys gas trucks (Fords) today for that reason.
I’m well convinced the only real reason to buy a diesel is because you like having a really huge amount of torque. I do... it’s fun. That’s why I have one, and it’s hot-rodded for lots more.
The new ones have so much electronics the reliability advantage is gone.
They don’t math out, overall.
There’s literally no load a pickup truck can handle that a gasser can’t do.
If I were buying a new pickup today I’d probably go back to gas.
