I do have a diesel.
The times it has failed me have been electronic issues, and electronic and/or emissions issues are the most of what plagues new diesel pickup owners.
My gas truck is more than ten years older than my diesel and has yet to strand me.
My friend’s tow trucks get treated very, very well, not beaten to death by someone with deep pockets. He watches every penny, trust me on that. He also puts them in shows. They’re really nice.
The higher resale is equaled by higher buy-in.
I’ve personally got one of each, my other truck is a gas GMC. It goes over the same mountain passes at 22,000 pounds total (truck & trailer) as my diesel, not as fast but it has always gotten where I pointed it, for a whole lot less total money.
But, I really like my ridiculously powerful Cummins. It’s pretty awesome.
