Besides Alaskans, virtually no other TC is designed to be carried around on a tailgate. So, not a great idea both due to the potential weight and ensuing damage from rocks, etc. That's if it actually will clear your TC.
Also, it's going to be long time before solar replaces generators for everyone. I wouldn't expect it to happen in the rest of my lifetime for those using AC appliances. That being said, I've gone entire weekends without running the generator, and I don't have solar while boondocking.
I think selling it is probably the best choice especially if it doesn't have a camera in it.
