Guess I'm the 'exception to the standard practice' then. I've never has anything between my truck bed and the camper bottom on my previous Lance not my current Palomino except the Rhino Lining on the bed.
No mat, no wood blocking, nothing and neither unit had / has ever moved at all, not even a hair and it's been mostly off road camping on unimproved roads.
My only conclusion is, it's my tie downs.
