Is this the pinion seal? The 03+ trucks use a reusable gasket for the diff cover. I've changed diff fluid a few times. They have not leaked. Have you tried to retorque the diff cover bolts? We need more specific info to help. Unless the problem becomes major the Check Engine light would not help with this specific problem.
To access the Check Engine, I think one would turn the key to On three times. Then watch the Odometer for the codes.
