I have changed a lot of differentials fluid and have never seen one that held a couple of gallons.
Most are around 3 quarts.
But pinion seals tend to leak fluid slowly. Due to the fact tat the fluid level at rest is usually below that of the seal. Fluid normally only contacts the seal when the gears are rotating and splash it up there.
So many pinion seal leaks can be managed a long time by simply topping it off at oil change time.

Depending on what axle it has the capacity will range from 7 to 10.2 pints.
