We traded in our TT to a dealership and bought a Class A MH. Now a week later, they text me, asking me where my "hitch work" is, and asking why it wasn't inside of my TT. Huh??? What is the norm? ...

For what it's worth, when I went from a TT to my 5th wheel, I handed the dealer my Prodigy brake controller (new truck came with one) and asked him to give it to a new young couple buying their first trailer. If you trust the dealer (I did/do) then you could donate the equipment to a new buyer. The hitch I gave to the buyer of my TT but it was part of the deal.
He is probably asking for the hitch because you left parts on the tongue and he wants it complete so he doesn't have to pay to complete it.
