What is this dealership trying to do???

We traded in our TT to a dealership and bought a Class A MH. Now a week later, they text me, asking me where my "hitch work" is, and asking why it wasn't inside of my TT. Huh??? What is the norm? I thought it was MINE because we paid for it after purchasing the TT (from the same dealer, I might add). Thought it was MINE to sell. Yes? Am I missing something here???

THanks for your input.

  • Wow. Thanks, you guys!!! Glad to know I'm not crazy. I know this will seem like an impossible question, but I think we paid upwards of $1000 for that. There WAS a part on the hitch that had Huge bolts (sorry, I don't know how else to describe). We didn't attempt to get it off. It stayed on. I believe it was to LIFT the camper tongue up higher, as with our tow vehicle, it was almost on the ground. Anyway, This is the impossible question, without a bunch of details I would have to research, like brand name, type, etc. But, how much do you GUESS we could sell it to someone... in a win/win type deal? If it's too hard, nevermind.
  • They have somebody wanting the trailer and instead of ponying up for a hitch they want yours.that way they can make more money.
I know a dealership takes all the used hitches to the parts department and resales them to the customers instead of leaving the hitch with the unit
  • Gosh..do they also want the tools, clothes, toiletries, and cooking utensils that were in your trailer .....:h

Unless part of the hitch is bolted to the trailer frame (like a Reese Dual Cam Straite-Line), the hitch is yours...Offer to sell it to them.

  • Never seen any hitch stuff included on 5th wheels. Never had a TT but would think same would apply. Like said above, yours unless it was made part of the trade deal. Randu
  • It's yours unless the purchase/trade in docs indicate your trade in includes the hitch. I would tell them the deal didn't include the hitch and they should not have assumed it did.
  • Yeah!!!!!!!!! I mean, what is the NORM? IF you were trading in a camper, and nothing was mentioned about the hitch, do MOST people automatically leave it with the trade??? This is our fourth RV. NEVER heard that. The same dealer never asked for the hitch when we traded a smaller TT in on this one 18 months ago. Hmmmmmmmmmm. Wondered if I'm missing something.
  • I never give my hitch with a trade , sell it yourself .They are just going to sell it as used ..probably to the guy that buys your trade.
