What is wrong with the new TT

Thing just have not been right since they took the dials off of telephones.

It all started with those push button thingys. :) :) :)

Our Jayco 28RLS has 80gal fresh water. We carry just enough to flush the throne while on the road.

Are you sure about that? The yellow sticker on our TT states that Dry Weight includes full propane and generator fuel (if applicable), no mention of Water.

Our 40' TT has a 48 gallon fresh water tank that will probably never see water while we own it. It stays at our seasonal resort year round.

So your primary list of requirements should be holding tanks.
I would always recommend holding on to the old trailer if it is still working for you.

And you are blaming the government for this? Yeah everything is their fault.

There have been some good responses if you would read them. The market is driven by demand. There has been a huge increase in "lite" trailers. Weight is being reduced to help mileage for one thing. Reducing weight means you can't put those big tanks in. They have to be supported and that will require heavier framing. I have heard of newer trailers losing a water tank as it drove down the road. Aside from all these "lite" trailers, folks are not camping like they used to. The oven issue is a good example of this. More people don't want an oven, they want a microwave. Well, get a microwave and you will be looking into full hookups, not to mention those air conditioners and the ever important television. More folks wanting more stuff will mean more people will hook up to a water supply. Not as much a need for a larger tank.

If the government now "requires" using full tank values to calculate dry weight figures I would agree and even say they should have done this years ago. How many threads do we read where someone buys a trailer and finds out his TV simply won't get it done? Dry weights need to be more realistic along with tongue weight values. Yeah, that government, it is out to get us all!

I wish mine had bigger tanks. Didn't find any models in my size/budget with huge tanks. I blame it on more than the government. Automakers are making weak unibody vehicles based off of cars that people for some reason want to own. They are terrible at towing, but people don't care. So trailer makers design them light because they can't fix the stupidity of the person who might buy it.
It isn't a big deal though. Easy to conserve and carry extra. Minor inconvenience. We go 4-5 nights without a problem.

As mentioned the market for bigger water tanks is less important that the market for the added gizmos that the public wants filling the same weight and space.

We typically haul 25 to 30 gallons because the CG water can be an issue. On our last three week adventure we choose our water over the CG water twice out of about 8 CGs across Michigan's UP

If a significant portion of the TT population were boonedockers the market would respond. Todays market has turned to the younger set with small kids that want pools, playground and other kid friendly amenities.

If the Government really wanted to do the public a service, they would require the manufacturers to list the expected the max tongue weight, based on the TT gross vehicle weight.

There are still some TTs that have large FW tanks but it will takes some work perusing the various manufacturer websites to get tank capacities of every TT built today. To simplify you could look at TTs that are built and designed for rugged use in areas where there are no hookups available, many of those will contain larger FW tanks. We have 2 large 60 gallon FW tanks on our TT TH and normally will travel with at least one filled whether we are having hookups at our destination or not. Even with our four kids with us we could easily go at least 3 days with just a single FW tank filled, now it's mostly just the DW and I and a filled tank will go nearly a week.

Mine holds 40 gallons. I only travel with about 5-7 gallons. If we go to a park with elec only I fill when I get there. And then run my hose(s) to the community water spigot to fill the tank when needed. I see no need for more at least for my self. Now if I was boondocking then yes 100gallon would be necessary.

That's Wisconsin, Campfire? NOT that easy in the West but better now after our wet winter in California. If you go to a new area you are always looking and if you return to that area you better remember where water and dumps are.
