What make and model microwave would be small enough?

Our 2002 Northern Lite 10-2 CD came without a microwave installed. We would like to put one in an overhead cabinet. The opening in the cabinet is only 9 3/4 high. What make and model would be small enough? My Google searches have turned up nothing.

Maybe it is your wording, or maybe your phrasing, or maybe just me.

The OP is looking to find a residential style oven to fit in a limited cabinet space in their camper. Since he is looking for a residential style, your first statement, (all microwaves are rated at 1500 watts or less) is not wholly accurate, since some can draw 21 amps.

I believe he already limited his search to 110v units. So what useful info is gleaned from your second line?

Glad you have been testing your appliances with your Killawatt Meter, but it does not help in his search for a microwave with limited outside dimensions.

Good point in fourth line, if, that is, they are unwilling to get cookware to fit oven they choose.

The forum is finally relieved to know your criteria on "choosing appliances"! But, still has nothing to do with the OP search for a small microwave, which is what he is inquiring about.

Hedgehopper is looking for a microwave that will fit in a 9.75" tall cabinet. That is his size limit. That is what he seeks an answer for. All else is pretty much irrelevant. Can you help with that?

My second response was to your post... where you brought up 220 VAC... I went to your profile to see where you came from that had 220 VAC

There is no reason to install an appliance that doesn't meet your operating requirements... if necessaary the OP might look at counter top microwave units... like the ones some college students have in dorms.

I read some of your other responses to other threads (started to understand... that maybe I'm not having a problem)

You were just kidding..."220 VAC microwaves" huh!

There is a block function on the forum... it works well.

#1 They are speaking about COOKING watts, not the watts the oven draws.
#2 Microwaves are made up to about 3000 cooking watts, and draw about 21 amps
    at 220 volts.
#3 The OP has limited space where they want to install the oven.
#4 Most appliances run on 110v and are limited to standard 15 amp receptacles,
    thus, 1500 watts.
#5 If how much an oven can hold were the only criteria, oh, why bother...

Mr troutman... What are you talking about?

We don't have 220 VAC in truck campers

All of our appliances that run on 110VAC... that is why that I told the OP what I did... it's accurate. Our appliances plug into standard 15 amp recepticles.... limited to 1500 watts.

Most Microwave ovens in truck campers are 1000 Watts or 1100 Watts of cooking power...

And... if your cassarole dish won't fit in the microwave may be useless for you, maybe your favorite coffie cup is tall. Some of the microwave ovens are too small, to big, to shallow, too heavy... who knows but the guy that has to install and use it.

  • All microwaves are rated at 1500 watts or less

meaning anything that you can get to physically fit will run on 110 VAC.

When I use my Killawatt Meter I find that most electrical appliances actually run on less than 1500W.

If you get one too small will it handle the dishes and other containers that you want?

I choose appliances by how much the hold rather than their outside deminsions

  • Kenmore use to make one at 9 7/8". There are a lot of small ones but more about 10 1/4". Refine your search by cu.ft. ( 0.7, 0.6 ) to less than 1. tons will come up. They will also be small in watts, 700.
Or visit your local kmart, home depot, wallmart etc, sometimes drug stores will carry tiny m/ws. IE Danby makes a coupl at 10 3/16".

You may want to relook at your cabinet- if the opening is 9 3/4, can you remove to install or cut cabinet or face trim. Also some of the ones that are meant to set on counter have removable feet (or pocket your shelf).

Your Google searches have turned up nothing because no one makes a microwave that short.
