If you have two young kids who love to camp and you ar certain you will never have a third kid: What size TT do you have? Do you have enough room or do you wish you had gotten a larger trailer?
Originally had a 26' bunkhouse with a slide. Good trailer - horrible floor plan for us anyways. The bunks (30" x 72" estimate) were nice for the kids but will be more like coffins once they get older. The bunkhouse was really limited on space even with the slideout and the shower was so small that it was almost an olympic event to try and squeeze into that space.
We just recently upgraded to a TH TT. It's a little longer and a tad wider. I think the extra room went to making the bathroom area larger and it has much larger corner style shower with full glass surround which the wife loves. It also still has bunks in the back area that drop down from the roof and they are much much larger measuring almost 60" by 90" I believe and they might even be a little wider than that. This trailer doesn't have a slide and that's actually good for us. I don't miss the slide out at all especially not being able to access the bathroom in the back of the bunkhouse model while underway. In general the layout is 100% better and as another plus we get to bring the toys with us camping now.
The DW and I overlooked little things while at the dealer that ended up making us unsatisfied with the floorplan. Things like the slide blocking the bathroom making it unusable if you need to pull over on the side of the road. Or things like the seating arangements that were not very conducive to having a conversation with the other people in the coach since the sofa and dinette are along the same wall on the slideout.
I don't believe it's all about the size of the TT you're looking at as much as a functional floor plan. While you're looking models make sure the floorplan you get will WORK for you for the way YOU plan to use it. I think a lot of us make that mistake first - I did and a lot of others have as well. - mowinExplorerIt depends on if your seasonal campers or are u planning on moving around a lot. We are seasonal and have a 38 bhds. Wouldn't think of anything smaller until we retire
- Robby9ExplorerWe started off with 28' that had rear bunks, but not a sepate room. That was okay when the girls were 9 and 6. However, it did not take long for them to start wanting their own room. We moved up to a 32' with a quad bunk bedroom. It was a huge improvement in their comfort level. Now, the girls are 10 and 13 and we've moved up to a 34' with a bunkroom with a its own slide. They are completely happy now. They have tons of storage and mirrors on their armoire. Apparently, mirrors are a huge issue for girls.
- MvanderExplorerWe have 2 boys 7-3. We have a 26' with a rearslide for mom and dad and quad bunk room in front for the boys. The thought was as they get older they could bring a friend. Plus no bed converting.
- Jmnyr2ExplorerWe just bought a 2013 Mountain View 186 and it perfect for our family of 4!
- donn0128Explorer IIOur first TT was a 22 footer. Loved it. Could seat 12 insode for dinner and sleep 6 pretty easily.
- LowsuvExplorerIn CT half ton pickups outnumber 3 /4 tons.
Your trailer size will be limited to the PAYLOAD capacity of your pickup .
We camp with our adult kids .
We camp mostly without hookups and therefore use 2 EZ-UP Quick-Shades to augment our covered space for shade or rain .
a 12 x 12 for cooking / eating , card games.
We often set up a tent under one of the quick shades (a 10 x 10 ).
That mitigates solar heat gain and keeps the tent dry in a downpour.
We use a 21T Komfort and have plenty of room to carry the additional quick shades and tent . We have a time proven mattress / fabric SHEETS / fleece sleep sack combo that insures a great nights sleep for our tenters.
Too many folks go to the RV show and purchase a Too Big trailer because it is parked . "Two-Foot-Itus "
After the first trip they discover they have trailer sway because their Lincoln Navigator limits their tongue weight . Heavy tongue weight mitigates sway .
If you buy the trailer that fits 5 inside you may need to think about an F 250 or HD 2500 soon after .
I know I have jumped ahead . I am just trying to relay what many other first timers have gone through .
Further, the best camping for us is NOT in an RV Park with hookups .
It is in the primitive camp spots down a gravel road alongside a stream or lake .
Good luck .
