What size of generator do you have?

Greetings all,
I'm researching generators and there is a ton of info out there about appliances and power draw. It's enough to make your head explode!

With that being said, are there any 18' TT owners that bought generators? If so, what size and how is it working, or not, for you? Thanks and have a great day. ~rs

I'm surprised you don't find your EU2000i perfectly sufficient for this purpose - I do. We don't dry camp often so I don't have a lot of need for this genset but I'm hanging on to it nonetheless because I've wired out the house furnace so if the need ever arises I can power the only two appliances in the house I'd really care about in the event of a sustained power outage - the furnace and the house fridge/freezer - both of which my EU2000i can easily power simply by plugging each directly into the genset, no interfacing into the house system required. Works like a charm, with the genset barely running much off ECO speed. :B

For $200 less you can get one that has the same power and specs.
    And it is Quieter
  • I have the Kipor 6000i and it runs my whole 5er with both AC's running and microwave. Its their inverter unit with echo switch and low noise.
  • Just 2 ways to go. One if you want to run a lot of things, mostly A/C and micro wave. Or, two, if you just need to charge your battery's, watch TV and use the computer.
To run everything you will need at least a 3KW generator.
    To charge battery's a 1KW or 2KW will do.
The smaller generators will charge battery's and let you run everything that uses 12 volt; plus watch the TV, charge cell phones, computers etc. when the generator is running.
Larger generator will run A/C, micro wave, coffee maker and things like that.
Generator size all depends on what you want. Are able to afford. What type of camping you do and where. And how much you are willing and able to load, store and handle.
  • I have a little bigger TT. I have one Honda 2000i. It does well with all except AC, and the microwave runs but at a lower power, you can hear it drag down, but it does work. Everything else no issue. My advice is if you don't want the AC a 2000ish works, if you want the AC then something like (2) 2000i (or similar) or one 3000ish.

I went with Honda because of its lowest decibel rating. I nor other campers want to hear it in the boon-docks. Others perform just as well but substantially loader.

If I had to do it again I would have bought a 3000, then I could use it in power outages in the home for fridge and freezer.

Since I'm not prepared to run any genset hour after hour, day and night, in order to run A/C and carry the fuel necessary to do so a 2K genset that otherwise can "do it all" is a no-brainer. :B
