I have not actually tried manually folding mine, but twice upon returning to my truck in a parking lot I found one of the mirrors folded where someone had apparently bumped against it. I just hit the switch to fold the other one, then hit it again and both unfolded. No problem.
I expect the extend/retract would be the same.
