I have not actually tried manually folding mine, but twice upon returning to my truck in a parking lot I found one of the mirrors folded where someone had apparently bumped against it. I just hit the switch to fold the other one, then hit it again and both unfolded. No problem.
I expect the extend/retract would be the same.
Put new tires on my dually out in Washington state this spring.
First thing the service (tire) guy does when he drives my truck into the shop was manually folded in the drivers side mirror. I almost came unglued. Quickly but amazingly politely told him they were power mirrors and don't do that again!
But, as others have said, no ill affects and they both work fine today.
Don't know why, but I have just started folding my mirrors in when I park side by side with other vehicles at restaurants and other shopping areas. Maybe I'm getting more polite in my old age, but figured its not worth having some clown fold them in manually while I am away from the vehicle.
