I myself have been in the telecom business for over 23 years and "if" the wires are the standard w/b b/w 24awg that is used in cat 3 - cat5 cables than you can twist them together and use them as wire as long as you fuse them for safety. If they are the red/green crappy wires you get with the cheaper dollar store jacks then I wouldn't. Heck, I used to use cat 3 cable twisted up to connect my 12 volt power supply to my CB radio years ago. Keep in mind that ma bell uses or since the advent of fiber and coax used negative 24 volts DC to provide dialtone to your 2500 sets way back when. In a pinch with the right rated fuse it will work.
