I've been playing the Cat & Mouse game for a few years and I never fully learned my lesson with TVs & TTs.
I had pop-ups for years and picked up a great Dodge Dakota with 4.7 v8. Great TV for a pop-up. Then DW after 20+years in PUP wants a bathroom. I sell the PUP and get a Jayco 20BH fully loaded at 6000#'s. The Dakota is now maxed out.
Trade the Dakota for a Ram 1500 Hemi, 3.92 rear able to pull 7500 pounds .... great no problem. The Ram 1500 pulls 6000 pounds like nothing with about 1500 pounds to spare.
We come across a deal on a Jayco Eagle that we cannot pass up. Gross weight of the Eagle is 7500 pounds and now the Ram 1500 is maxed out. Now I start looking for a 3/4 ton truck.
Last month I traded my Ram 1500 for a brand new Ram 2500, Hemi, 4.10 rear with a tow capacity of 13,000 pounds. Plenty of tow capacity now. Well this past weekend DW and I go to Camping World for some supplies and now she is hooked on a Jayco Whitehawk.
The moral of the story is I should have gone straight to the 3/4 ton and bypass the 1/2 ton truck. The bright side of not doing that is I now have a brand new truck instead of a 6 year old truck.
Good luck!!!
