Best planned unusual spot: in my Toyota pre-Tiger 4X4 RV, at the end of the Port San Luis Jetty. Sadly, camping is no longer allowed on the jetty.
Worst unusual spot: on the driveway of the closed truck weight station on 395 just south of Bishop. Just after dark, the vehicle shown in the photo above had an electrical failure. Both headlights quit. Those lights are fused separately. AAA would not tow me because they had more serious accident issues to take care of and I was safe. Not comfortable, but safe. BTW, the problem was a relay inside the steering column. It took out the headlights, the horn, and the 4-way flashers. At daylight, I drove the truck home to Chula Vista to get it fixed. $$$
