We used to have a nice nimble 17' hybrid which was fine for the 2 of us except it had no wardrobe space and with no slides, walking side by side was not really possible. We upgraded to the floor plan we liked and at 30 ft with 3 slides one of which is the wardrobe, it is the right size. No need to upgrade for space.
To the OP - get the bigger trailer now and forget about upgrading as the family grows. You will find places to park it. And as you get more accustomed to its size it won't seem as large. You will however always have to worry about which gas station you can handle though .
