The tow rating is around 8000 pounds. The receiver limit is 1000 pounds when using a WDH, which matches well to about 8k loaded TT. But your more likely limit is payload. 6.2L Equipped GM SUVs have on the order of 1300-150 pounds. Does the weight of people and cargo weigh less than 300-500 pounds? I highly recommend looking into a pickup for towing. They can offer more potential payload, higher receiver limits, and with a bed cover, the world's largest trunk, all the while costing about $8k less than a comparable SUV. If you don't need 3 rows of climate controlled seats, don't accept those compromises.
I don't know what you mean about your current setup becoming expensive. Towing a high walled RV at 65mph will get 8-10mpg, then you'll be touring the cities while getting 12-16mpg non towing, all the while with a $60k TV and $30k TT that are depreciating quickly if relatively new.
